
A child can know the answer—and still be too afraid to raise their hand. I know because that child was me. Low confidence affected how I participated in school, the opportunities I pursued and the way I showed up in my relationships and life.
In this article, I explore why confidence is not simply a personality trait—it is a skill that can be taught, practiced and strengthened. I also share simple, manageable ways educators can help students feel capable, valued and safe enough to try.

You are wonderful just as you are.
These are the words I use to end nearly every social media post I share. They are also the foundation of what I believe, what I create and how I hope to foster positive change in the world through Wonder Child Publications.
But what do I really mean when I say, “You are wonderful just as you are”? Does it mean that we should remain exactly where we are, comfortable in our lives and never striving to improve? Does it mean that we shouldn’t pursue growth—mentally, emotionally, spiritually or physically?
